He was more resilient, less agitated, better able to verbally communicate and he slept better!” –Mother of 5 year old patient. Chiropractic care is a powerful tool for children with ADHD. According to one study “Chiropractic treatment seems to be the most successful therapy which helps to treat such disorders.[1]” ADHD is a problem where the body, brain and outside world don’t match up. Kids are unable to control their behavior, or their attention, because their brains have lost some ability to communicate and control. When the brain and body cannot communicate many symptoms occur. Symptoms include inability to focus, trouble sleeping, energy level fluctuations and emotional sensitivity. Chiropractic helps the brain and body communicate better. The result is kids who are better able to control, engage and organize their mind and their actions. When communication between the body and the brain breaks down, some children become hyperactive and have trouble staying focused. The term for this miscommunication is subluxation. Subluxations can be caused by physical, mental and emotional trauma. Subluxation occurs from birth trauma. Subluxatations can be caused by physical events such as normal childhood bumps and bruises. Eating sugar, processed food and not finishing your vegetables causes subluxation. Emotional events like being scared about the first day of school or moving into a new house causes subluxation. For kids with ADHD, subluxations prevent them from being able to stay focused or sit quietly. Chiropractic care removes these subluxations. This allows the body and the brain to communicate. Once the body and brain can communicate, it is easier to focus, to sleep, to sit still and to respond in a measured way to the world around you.
