Portrait Health Centers to Open Woodside Wellness Institute to Bring Smart Phone App Development and the Woodside Wellness Model to Patients Suffering Anxiety, Depression and Suicidal Ideation
Portrait Health Centers announced today its plan to open the first Woodside Wellness Institute. Portrait Health Centers' clinical team believes that the Woodside Wellness Model, which focuses on providing strength-based, client-centered clinical care using contemporary, effective and scientifically accepted methods, will complement Portrait Health's self-study app development course in the diagnosis and treatment of depression and anxiety in teenagers and young adults.
The clinical team at Portrait Health Centers has observed that teenage and young adult patients with learning differences and depression have begun showing signs of improved self-esteem, confidence, and renewed enthusiasm by participating in a self-study program to learn to create and market smart phone applications. The Portrait Health course requires no computer coding experience.
"App development by itself is not a treatment," Dr. Jack Maggiore, Healthcare Director of Portrait Health explains. "What is needed is defined, structured counseling as provided by the Woodside Wellness
Model. As a licensed social worker having counseled and treated patients for years, Jackie Woodside was able to create an effective program which complements the tools incorporated in the Portrait Health App Development Program."
The Woodside Wellness Model incorporates the best of traditional and complementary approaches to the treatment of depression and anxiety. Woodside created this model after 25 years of successfully treating
anxiety and depression in teens, young adults and adults using these methods in schools, prisons, clinics, hospitals and in private practice. Jackie Woodside explains, "The model stems from the belief that each individual wants to and has the innate capacity for healing and that healing requires 5 key components: (1) Support: connection and belonging both in the treatment relationship and in the life of the patient; (2) Structure: engagement in meaningful, purposeful
activity; (3) Wellness: health in the mind and body through exercise and
nutrition; (4) Hope: belief in a positive outcome and a goal to pursue; and (5)
Knowledge: education and understanding about anxiety and depression."Adolescents are not immune to today's social
stressors that cause depression. Unfortunately, insurance does not always provide coverage for mental health services. This often leaves parents wondering where to turn for help. But Portrait Health may have an answer. Henry Warner, President of Portrait Health, explains, "We want all Portrait Health Centers and the new Woodside Wellness Institute to be places of refuge and help for everyone. At Portrait Health Centers and at the Woodside Wellness Institute, our goal is to never turn away a patient because he or she cannot afford care. This open door policy is made possible by the financial support of the Portrait Health Angels program which makes care available to those who cannot afford
