Educational and Experience: I earned my Master’s degree in Psychological Counseling from Monmouth University. I also attended Rutgers Graduate School of Education and Kean University’s Graduate College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Psychology from Rutgers University with additional college credits in Biology and Chemistry. I have extensive work experience through practicum, employment and volunteer commitments with a very wide range of diverse clientele from varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric (case management, referrals, group facilitation, collaboration with schools, and employers), schools (elementary, middle and high school, and colleges), and community disaster response in New Jersey communities impacted by Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, including having received training from Dr. Robert Macy, PhD., DMT of the International Trauma Center. I am trained in CBI (Classroom-Community-Culture Based Intervention), a group Dance Movement Therapy, designed to minimize the effects of trauma. I have 10 years of experience working in Academic Support for college students with challenges such as Learning Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities and ADHD. In community settings, I have trained and supervised administrative volunteers implementing youth development programs, collaborating with community leaders and businesses. I have served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology teaching a variety of courses including Adolescent Psychology and a specialized type of Pharmacology. 

Therapeutic Approaches: It is my basic belief that you need to change the way you think before you can change the way you act. I am a Cognitive Behavioral counselor who also uses a variety of other approaches based on client need, including but not limited to Coaching, Culturally Sensitive, Family Systems, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. I have been described as compassionate, mature and, and professional as a counselor; caring, and respected by the students I have taught.

My approach is collaborative with the client because I believe I am assisting them to move forward with their hopes and plans, empowering them with enough confidence to trust their ability to move toward the life they envision.
 
More About Me:  I have coached or managed several youth sports including Pop Warner Cheerleading (Yes, Cheerleading is a sport!), “Pee Wee” Soccer (first level certified Soccer Coach) Assisted with Youth USA Track and Field and Cross Country Teams as a parent and travelled as chaperone for the National AAU Championship Youth Girls Cross Country Team (partially sponsored by Nike “Women’s Sports”), former Scout Leader and paid staffer, parent and grandparent.
