Education and experience in the field: I am a registered licensed dietitian with a Bachelor’s of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Sam Houston State University. After graduating, I moved to the Texas-Mexico border and began working at a bariatric surgery center as a patient advocate, helping those who were interested in bariatric surgery by guiding them through the lengthy process and fostering a relationship with my patients to ensure that they received all the support needed before and after the surgery. I then completed my Master’s of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley and began my Dietetic Internship with Keith and Associates Distance Dietetic Internship. During my rotations I participated in the care of bariatric patients, pre and post-surgery, renal, oncology, cardiac, geriatric, pediatric, prenatal, and NICU patients as well as those who were overweight, underweight, and those desiring to improve their sports performance, to name a few.
My philosophy is to first establish a healthy relationship with food, not to obsess over it or fear it. Since food is a necessity, having a healthy relationship with it will ensure utmost nutrition and most importantly, a joyous experience providing immense benefits in our lives. Education about different food items and portion control is essential to overall wellness. Additionally, the journey is not a sprint but instead a long-distance race. A slow transition to a healthy targeted meal plan will ensure long term success.
I enjoy the time I spend with my patients and would like my patients to feel the same. While with me, I want my patients to know that this is a judgement free zone and we will tackle any issue to ensure health and happiness. Afterall, an enjoyable experience is a sustainable experience.
During my free time I enjoy spending time with my crazy family doing outdoor activities such as running, biking, swimming, camping, volleyball, and anything else that can be done outside. I also enjoy trying different cuisines and recipes and have a very healthy appreciation for baking.
