Education and Experience:I am a Cuban-American born of two immigrant parents and am therefore fluent in Spanish in addition to English.I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree at Manhattanville College in English Education and obtained my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree from Felician University. I am also currently working towards my doctorate (Psy.D) in Counseling Psychology at Felician University. I have foundational training in and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness (MBSR), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytictherapies, Multicultural, Positive Psychology, Psycho-Educational, among others.
I have experience in several medical settings including in an adolescent long-term residential facility that treats both substance abuse and mental health disorders. I believe that therapy is an essential way to understand how patterns of thinking can affect individuals’emotional and physical bodies. Gaining insight of the internal self through a therapeutic alliance involving empathy and radically genuine interactions, and learning the mind-body connection, guides us to acknowledge and accept our actions, reactions, and behaviors.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, traveling, practicing yoga and mindfulness meditation, and playing with my two dogs. I believe that a positive relationship with animals can be therapeutic in it of itself.
