Education and Experience:
I obtained a Masters of Science in Education for Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Agencies from CACREP accredited Northern Illinois University. I also obtained my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from NIU. During my education at NIU, I was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Golden Key International Honor Society. I worked as a Research Assistant for Dr. Orcutt studying why some individuals who suffer from trauma develop PTSD and spent a summer in the U.K. studying substance abuse and the history and development mental health disorder and treatments.
My experiences in social services are advocating for people with developmental disabilities, transitioning women and children into the community from domestic violence, counseling and teaching children with attention deficit disorder and oppositional defiance disorder, facilitated support groups for men and woman who are coping with PTSD, educational groups for adults on how to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system and support groups for women and children of domestic violence including sexual molestation. My prior counseling experience has been in a clinical setting, counseling children and adults who have been diagnosed with mental disorders.
My approach to therapy is holistic utilizing the client’s strengths. In using a holistic approach, I use many treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus, Motivational interviewing, Art therapy, Mindfulness, and Psycho-educational therapy and others to meet the needs of the client.
I balance my work life with the relaxation I get from nature by kayaking, and hiking. I enjoy spending time with my adult children and friends playing board games or going to an event.
