I believe that successful counseling begins with the relationship between the client and the counselor. I work to establish a trusting, open and non-judgmental environment with the client. In such an environment, I come to understand your goals for mental wellness and the challenges you face. With this understanding, we work together to establish a plan for treatment that meets your individual needs. Using the plan as a starting point, we become collaborators on your journey to wellness. As collaborators, we work together to help you reach your treatment goals. Since positive mental wellness is connected to our physical well-being, we will consider aspects of mental wellness such as sleep hygiene, healthy nutrition, and an active lifestyle as part of treatment.
I am here to listen to your story, provide mental wellness education and to be a support. Because everyone has had unique experiences during their lifetimes, I believe that there is no one way to approach counseling, therefore I prefer an eclectic approach. A person may be benefited from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused therapy, a person-centered approach, as well as other approaches. I also believe that creative approaches, such as drawing, play, writing and music and other expressive approaches can be a helpful supplement to talk-therapy.
I earned my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Kean University in Union, NJ. My bachelor’s degree was earned at Fairleigh Dickinson University where I majored in psychology. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor in New Jersey. I serve as a volunteer peer group facilitator at a grief support center that serves grieving children, teens, young adults and their caregivers. I am also a member of several counseling professional associations and am a National Certified Counselor.
I my spare time I enjoy hiking, nature photography and watercolor painting. I love to walk for fitness and plan to visit as many National Parks as possible while I remain on the planet. I am a lifelong resident of New Jersey.
