I graduated with my doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Xavier University, located in Cincinnati, OH. Throughout my training and subsequent clinical experiences, I have worked with a variety of presenting problems, mental health diagnoses and client backgrounds. I integrate a variety of aspects of evidence-based treatments into my work, including techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

The decision to come to therapy is not an easy one. To me, it represents hope. I strive to create a relationship that will facilitate your own personal growth, a relationship in which you will feel supported, accepted, and most of all, heard. It is my goal to understand your experiences, not through my own personal lenses, but through the lenses through which you see the world. Together, we will work to identify and remove barriers preventing you from living a deep and meaningful life. We will explore new ways of relating to yourself, others, and the world. We will develop skills to improve the way you manage life’s stressors and explore how old ways of behaving may be keeping you stuck.

Sometimes we have thoughts, feelings or experienced things that we don’t know how to handle, or where to even start. This feeling is more common than most of us think and has been my drive into becoming a helping professional. I earned my bachelor’s in Psychology and minored in Criminal Justice from Caldwell University. I then went on to earn my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgian Court University.  I have experience working in a partial care setting for individuals with persistent mental health and co-occurring disorders, in which I ran various groups and met with individual clients. In addition, I also have experience working in residential facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders. In this setting, I worked alongside a treatment team creating and implementing treatment goals/plans.

As a licensed counselor, I maintain a nonjudgmental understanding of individual beliefs, values, thought processes, and experiences, which in turn, allows the counseling experience to be a safe space. There is no one counseling approach that is a catchall. I believe each session, each modality and technique used within counseling should be personalized, which is why I utilize an integrative, person-centered approach to fit your individual needs, and most importantly your best interest. Some counseling techniques I utilize, but not limited to include Narrative Therapy, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and more. I am a passionate advocator for my clients and practice in a collaborative manner, as I encourage self-awareness, education and understanding of diagnoses, and mental health concerns. Having had experience working with diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds, and diagnoses in both individual, group and family settings, my goal is to work alongside you in a mutually respectful therapeutic relationship in which we work towards your goals. As your counselor my ultimate goal is not only provide you with adequate services, but to also equip you with tools to thrive afterwards as well.

I am a huge advocate of de-stressing and self-care activities! In my free time, I love nature walks and sightseeing. If you don’t see me walking on a trail or on the boardwalk, you can find me laughing and hanging out with friends, looking up new recipes, or DIY ideas. I also like to write, but shh – it’s a secret!

Experience: Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population, including adolescents, adults and seniors from all walks of life, with all types of mental health challenges, and in many different kinds of settings such as adolescents from single parent homes to seniors with serious mental health challenges. Additionally, I was a Program Counselor for adults and seniors with serious mental health challenges where I facilitated group counseling on a wide range of mental health related issues.

Philosophy/Approach:My approach to the therapeutic process is largely based on Karen Horney’s principal, which is,“You need not, and in fact, cannot, teach an acorn to grow into an oak tree, but when given a chance, its intrinsic potentialities will develop. Similarly, the human individual, given a chance, tends to develop his particular human potentialities.” I view it as my job, role and responsibility to give my clients that “chance” that they need and deserve in order to develop and grow into the greatest and healthiest person that they can be. With this in mind, I strive to create an atmosphere where my clients feel safe, accepted, cared for and understood. I achieve this through advanced listening skills, genuineness, conveying unconditional acceptance, and being empathic. Education: I received my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from CACREP-accredited Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ. Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, NJ. I am now a Licensed Associate Counselor as well as National Certified Counselor. I have worked with many different people of varying backgrounds in my previous counseling work. I believe in meeting my client where they are at emotionally and mentally each and every session.

Experience: During my lifetime, I have always had a very deeply invested interest in the psychology of the mind and how we, as people, develop emotionally, mentally and how that all connects to our physicality. This in turn had been applied to my undergraduate career by integrating that research into my work. I believed by delivering evidence-based and clinically-informed information to people about how interaction in all environments is fueled I could help more people feel heard, understood and empowered. This is where, at the end of my undergraduate career, I found myself diving deeper into the Psychological Profession. Thus, gaining my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling then onto my licensure as an Associate Counselor. At my internship, I assisted multiple licensed counselors with running different groups including ones in the Ocean and Monmouth County Court Systems, working in individual sessions by myself or co-counseling with other licensed professionals. I worked diligently at recording group and individual data, maintaining client files and confidentiality, engaging clients and developing strong therapeutic relationships during our one-on-one sessions. I believe in a wholistic style of treatment as well as a holistic style of treatment. My treatment plans are all developed with the client’s world and life in mind. I am an Eclectic (also known as Integrated) therapist, which means I develop treatments with my clients based in multiple theories about how change occurs, all of which are within of my scope of knowledge.

Philosophy:  My focus has and always will be on applying myself for the needs of my clients. It is important in this line of work to be as educated and available as possible for each individual and help them reach their goals. I devote much time to the development of my skills outside of sessions as to be the most helpful to my clientele in their journeys. I recognize every person has a unique life path and that path has many turns and obstacles, but for me to be able to help in the most effective way I need to meet them where they are at and walk side by side with them through it, so one day they may be able to by themselves with relative ease.

About Me, Hobbies, Activities:  I have many hobbies that access my creative side such as cosplay, playing video games, baking and crocheting. I enjoy my off time watching anime, reading (manga and fiction books) and spending time with my family, partner, and friends. Lastly, I also spend much time to the research and development of my own skills for therapeutic purposes; I believe in being a life-long learner

Educational Background: I earned my Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from St. John’s University. I went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University. Currently, I am licensed as a Professional Counselor.

Theoretical Approach: Realizing you need help can be frightening. Choosing to engage in therapy can be intimidating. Therefore, finding a suitable therapist for your needs is necessary as you begin your journey towards self-discovery. With these aspects in mind, I strive to create a setting in which the client feels the upmost support, acceptance, and understanding. I place emphasis on approaching the therapeutic relationship as a team as we work collaboratively towards healthy insight and personal development. More importantly, I diligently design sessions in a way that client’s feel a sense of safety and empowerment as they work towards achieving their desired goals. While therapy can be mentally and emotionally draining, it is a rewarding experience filled with increased insight, self-confidence as well as clarity in a sometimes darkened path. I make an effort to encourage the celebration of all therapeutic milestones, as those victories are essential in maintaining any acquired personal growth.

No one theoretical approach works for the masses so, in response, I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy. Some of the treatment modalities I use include cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, gestalt, psychodynamic, and mindfulness.  Fortunately, I have been afforded the opportunity to work with various demographics, which has increased my empathetic and sincere attitude towards unique populations as well as situations.

Fun Facts about Me: With the responsibilities of everyday life always hanging overhead, I find that implementing some “me time” is a vital part of my day. One of my guilty pleasures is watching reality television to escape my own. I also enjoy a fun outing with friends, sitting by the ocean, and spending a pleasant afternoon/ evening with my family.
