I am a licensed clinical psychologist with several areas of specialization. I received a doctoral degree in clinical/ child psychology from Yeshiva University and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from New York University. Throughout my years of training I have worked with individuals, couples, and families of all ages and backgrounds. While I am flexible and tailor my treatment to individual patients needs, I primarily work from a psychodynamic-relationally based perspective.

I have a warm and open therapeutic style. I approach therapy from the belief that everyone, regardless of age or circumstance, longs to be seen and understood. From this perspective I strive to understand each patient and work collaboratively to establish a strong therapeutic alliance and create space where an individual can feel supported, heard, and cared for.

When I am not working as a psychologist I enjoy reading, traveling, horseback riding, and having fun with my family.

I believe that all individuals have the ability to effect change in their lives, and that my role as therapist is to empower my clients to lead fulfilling and happier lives. Through a collaborative relationship, I help my clients envision the lives they want to lead and reach their goals in a safe, compassionate and supportive environment. I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Recognizing that each client has unique needs, strengths and resources, I use a variety of therapeutic techniques such as play therapy, experiential therapy, solution focused therapy, structural family therapy and family systems therapy.

Before obtaining a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Iona College, I worked as a lawyer with children, adolescents and families who were experiencing family and relationship conflict. As a marriage and family therapist, I have worked with couples, individuals, children and adolescents providing individual, family and group therapy. My experience includes helping my clients strengthen peer and family relationships, explore trauma and loss and navigate parenting and relationship challenges.I am also a certified divorce mediator and believe that spouses and families only benefit from resolving their issues without court intervention.

In my free time, I am an avid reader. I also love hiking and cycling and find peace in the beauty of nature. I travel whenever I can and, as an amateur photographer, my camera is always close at hand.

Education and Experience:I started my college education at Passaic Community College where I received my associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. While I was in community college, I thoroughly enjoyed my psychology courses and enrolled in more for my electives. From community college, I transferred to William Paterson University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After taking some time off from school, I decided I wanted to go back to earn my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It was my interest in addiction and learning more about mental health that aided me towards my graduate school journey.

I completed my clinical internship at a community outpatient counseling clinic in Montclair, New Jersey. During my time as a clinician, I worked with a variety of clients, including children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. I provided individual, and group counseling.

Theoretical Orientation and Counseling Approach:I strive to create a non-judgmental environment for my clients where they feel welcomed, respected, heard, and have the support they deserve while collaboratively working towards their goals. The most rewarding part about being a mental health counselor is being able to witness individuals bettering themselves and overcoming obstacles whether they are big or small. As a counselor, I know that every individual is unique; therefore, I work with the client based on their needs and at a pace they are comfortable with, while also trying to challenge them in making steps towards their progress.

The theoretical orientation I incorporate in my counseling sessions is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness. I am a firm believer that our thoughts and feelings influence our behavior. The first step in creating change starts with being self-aware.  We will work to identify any dysfunctional and distorted thoughts in order to work towards actively modifying and challenging negative beliefs and patterns. As the clinician, I am here to work with the client on whatever it may be that they would like to achieve.

About Me:I am a big family person. I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy cooking with my boyfriend and trying new delicious places to dine. To decompress, I like to watch shows and movies of various genres. I also enjoy taking my dog for walks, seeing how much joy it brings him.

Education and Experience: I am currently a Licensed Associate Counselor, working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.  I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in LGBTQ studies. During this time, I worked with children, teens, and college aged students in various environments, assisting them with coping skills, improving their behavior, broadening their thinking, and furthering their education. I then received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Throughout this time, I worked with individuals who experienced sexual trauma as well as individuals who are developmentally delayed. Both experiences were very different but allowed me to work with a varying degree of people and issues that helped me become more well-rounded. I also have experience as a case manager, where I assist clients diagnosed with schizophrenic, psychotic, bipolar, etc. disorders with reintegrating into the community once discharged from long term psychiatric hospitals.

Clinical Approach: I like to use an integrative approach when working with my clients because everyone is different and might require a different approach. This allows us to bring together all aspects of a person and learn how one area in our lives might be affecting another. As a counselor, my goal is for the client and myself to work collaboratively and comfortably and come to an understanding of what they are truly looking to improve or change in their lives.

A Bit About Myself: I am a big advocate for self-care, so I make sure to take care of my own mental health daily as well. I enjoy dancing and performing, reading, listening to my favorite music, and watching different types of tv shows. I love traveling and doing anything adventurous, and hopefully one day I can experience bungee jumping and skydiving.

I earned both my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Felician University.  I completed my graduate internship at a private charter school, working with students from K-8.  I went on to work with teenagers of high school age in an in-home setting.   I expended in the field while working with adults coping with severe psychiatric disorders in group home, supportive housing and residential settings.   My passion stems from my life experience of growing up with a brother with severe Autism and OCD.

As a counselor, I believe in the individuality of clients and the importance of comfortability in the relationship and setting of therapy.  I feel all clients should be approached with a clean slate, allowing for the most genuine experience.  I would consider my approach Eclectic with the utilization but not limitation of approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing & Person-Centered Therapy.

I appreciate and value quality time with family and friends.  I have always been an advocate of the importance of the mind/body connection and the role physical fitness and nutrition can play in our overall well-being.

I obtained my Master’s Degree in Counseling with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from Montclair State University.   I am a Licensed Associate Counselor in the State of New Jersey as well as a National Certified Counselor.   My experience includes both individual and group treatment.  I have worked in a variety of settings which include outpatient and residential programs, allowing me to have the opportunity to work with a wide range of disorders and clients.  I completed my internship at a substance abuse clinic which gave me a wealth of knowledge and experience with that type of population.

The approach I take in my treatment is building a working relationship with clients to enable trust between client and counselor.  My theoretical orientation is a combination of Person-Centered/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and am a strong believer in empowering people to make their own choices. I encourage people to look at their thoughts and feelings because a lot can be learned from how we think and perceive the world.  Motivational interviewing is another tool that I rely on in my treatment.  Building up a client's positive self image and pointing out discrepancies has many benefits to helping a client achieve their goals.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  During the summers, I love taking trips down the shore and relaxing by the beach. I also like hiking, trying new restaurants, and watching different kinds of shows.

Education: I am a doctoral student (Ph.D.) at Walden University in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have a master’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from William Paterson University. My bachelor’s degree is from Rutgers University in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice.

Experience: I am a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in NJ.  I will complete all requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in the summer of 2020. As a mental health professional, I have worked with clients from various age groups, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds. My experience includes both individual and group therapy with adults diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Other examples include: co-occurring disorders, psychiatric issues, and substance abuse disorders. I have experience with teenagers in residential facilities with behavioral issues and family stressors. Finally, I have a growing interest in play and creative therapies for children. I think young children and adolescents should be able to express their thoughts and feelings in a developmentally appropriate way.

Approach to Treatment: Often times, individuals get caught up in unhealthy and defeating patterns of thinking and behavior. I find an integrative treatment approach works best. I believe that early experiences and relationships shape our lives. This includes our sense of self, the way we view the world, and how we build relationships. I like to collaboratively explore with my clients how past experiences affect their present lives. The goal with clients is positive growth in order to reach more satisfying lives and their full potential.

Hobbies/Interests: First and foremost, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I love reading, learning, and watching Disney movies. Lately I have been working toward becoming healthier physically and mentally. My self-care process includes exercise, personal reflection, and healthy eating.
