My counseling approach reflects academic training, personal experience as an active duty military spouse and mother - all these experiences shaped my outlook and foundational beliefs. I believe we are unique and complex with a variety of needs, but the baseline is rooted in human interaction comprised of caring, respect, acceptance, support, and understanding.  We all possess the capacity for change from within.  However, we sometimes need an external catalyst that a counselor may provide utilizing a safe and therapeutic environment comprised of genuineness and empathy. This approach complements my personal style and worldview in that it is without bias and acknowledges the uniqueness of our own experiences.  Therefore, I utilize an integrated approach which is versatile, flexible, and universally applicable to an array of clinical issues.  These approaches include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, Couples and Family Therapy.

My goal is to promote wellness and facilitate “wholeness” to maximize individual functionality and increase self-awareness of the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, and spirituality.  I strive to empower clients by accentuating their strengths, moving beyond their limitations in order to realize greater life satisfaction and psychological wellness.

I earned my Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois and a National Certified Counselor.  I have worked with individuals and in group settings comprised of children, adolescents, and adults in residential treatment facilities, community mental health centers, and in outpatient counseling agencies.

I enjoy physical fitness, attending sporting events, digital scrapbooking, cooking, and spending time with my husband and active teenagers.

Health is the ultimate wealth!   As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, my goal is to help others live their best lives by choosing the right foods to maintain their optimal mental and physical health.  Perseverance is key and staying motivated is a daily challenge. In a productive session, the client will have their nutrition questions answered and then discuss practical ways to assimilate that information into their daily routine.

My experiences as a Registered Dietitian include adult and pediatric hospitals as well as a private doctor’s office.  Working with a vast variety of clientele, I have come to realize that individualized guidance on a regular basis is key to staying focused and motivated, thus bringing about the desired health and nutrition goals. During our time together, I hope to motivate and inspire the client to make the necessary diet and lifestyle changes that will lead them to optimal health thus helping them live their very best life.
