Coming to therapy can be scary and hard, but I commit to every person to bring a genuine, warm and comfortable experience that allows you the space to be you! One of my skills as a therapist is building a strong supportive rapport with each person that walks through my door. You can expect me to be genuinely me with no pretense or stuffiness. I consider it the utmost honor and privilege to walk with someone through hard times. I believe that every person is capable of change and growth. Sometimes all it takes is a supportive person to come along side and encourage the goals towards change!

Education and Experience: I use a combination of therapeutic techniques that match every unique individual.  These include CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, solution focused, narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and structural therapy.   I have a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Evangelical Seminary, however, I also enjoy seeing individuals and all unique people.

I grew up in New England and not that long ago moved west to Boise, Idaho. I have yet to see a potato farm, however, I am extremely active in everything Idaho has to offer. The mountains and wilderness have been my playground for the past few years. I backpack, hike, bike, kayak, ski and do anything outdoors related all year long. I am also an artist so if art is your thing too you better bet we will be adding that to the therapeutic process!

Education and Experience: I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Idaho and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Eastern Washington University.  I have previously worked as a program manager for providing services for disabled individuals in their homes and also work at an LGBTQA+ youth drop-in center in Spokane. I have mostly worked with teens and adults and have experience with various disorders such as mood disorders, personality disorders, social impairments, as well as other issues such as sexual and gender identity, and behavioral issues.

Approach to Therapy: My approach to therapy is influenced heavily by my education and my experience and I focus on meeting the client where they are at, helping them to understand and use supports that they have around them and using both short and long terms goals. Making a decision to see a counselor and to come in for sessions can be a very difficult decision for clients, so I always want to make sure that they feel that they are in a safe space in order to build up a rapport with me as their therapist. I use approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral, Culturally Sensitive, Multicultural, Trauma Focused and Mindfulness as tools with my clients in order to help them get the most out of their therapy.

About Me: I understand and know how important it is to know a little about myself when you are choosing a counselor. I have lived most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, most living in Washington and Idaho, but I consider my hometown to be Moscow, Idaho. I enjoy reading, watching Asian movies and dramas (I am trying to learn Chinese), listening to various types of music, taking walks with my dog and exploring new places to eat around the Treasure Valley. I also enjoy taking trips with my husband to explore ghost towns as we have created a list of places we would like to visit. I am a calm and contemplative person both in my personal and work life and am a good listener.  I hope that by knowing a little about me helps you in making your decision when choosing a counselor.

As the title implies, a Patient Coordinator is the guide who literally takes your hand and leads you through the initial evaluation and serves as your advocate when the team of specialists design personalized treatment plans.  Nobody should ever have to walk alone when learning about the treatment options and deciphering between myths and facts in healthcare.  A Portrait Health Patient Coordinator will educate you and your family on the latest treatment options and will work to ensure that the focus remains on identifying the cause, and not merely treating the outward symptoms the patient is experiencing.  Each Portrait Health Patient Coordinator is experienced in pediatric, adolescent, adult and senior care, and becomes your guide and advocate at Portrait Health Centers.  Contact us to speak with a Patient Coordinator.
