Change can be difficult, particularly when you are struggling with the stressors of life. Therapy can seem daunting when you already have so much going on. However, it does not have to be. Psychotherapy can help you clarify thinking, gain insight into past experiences that may be adversely impacting current circumstances, develop a plan, and increase your ability to handle and cope with the challenges of life. I have helped many people make the changes they needed to improve their mood, relationships, and overall functioning.

Throughout my years as a clinical psychologist I have worked with adults who struggle with depression, alcoholism/addiction, anxiety, functioning in the workplace, trauma, and interpersonal relationship difficulties. I graduated with my Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D) from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Additionally, I am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and an EMDR-trained clinician. I am an experienced therapist and lifelong learner who will identify the appropriate evidence-based interventions and develop the treatment course that is right for you. Finally, I consider myself to be a down-to-earth professional with a warm sense of humor who has a strong desire to help you succeed in your goals and to find a greater sense of peace and wellness.

I have earned by B.A. from Illinois Institute of Technology with a major in psychology. I went on to pursue my Master's Degree at Concordia University-Chicago in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While working at Serenity Counseling Solutions, Associates in Behavioral Sciences, and Concordia University-Chicago I provided services to a diverse population of clients with varying concerns.

I love to utilize theories that work best for my individual clients. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapy are the theories that I tend to draw from the most frequent. In order to get the most out of counseling, I believe it is important for the client and I to establish a strong rapport. Before any work can be done, it is most important that the client knows that I am listening and care about what they are talking about in the session.

While in college, I played both volleyball and softball. In addition to continuing my love for those sports, I love to read, hike, watch movies, and get outside as much as possible.

As a skilled therapist I believe I play various roles for my clients, such as being a positive role model, a mentor and a confidant to them.  My natural ability to connect with my clients and to skillfully build rapport with them while remaining non-judgmental and authentic, I can fulfill those roles.

I use person-centered approach to build the basis for the therapeutic alliance with my clients. Although, my theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I draw techniques from various other therapies such as Gestalt Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to meet each client’s unique goals and needs.

I obtained a Master in Science (MS) in Community Counseling from National Louis University and have since worked at the Community Crisis Center as a counselor for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. I have had previous internship experience working with the incarcerated women in India. I am also a Certified Domestic Violence Counselor.

In my free time, I like to read, work out and travel. I love how the outdoors and nature brings out the adventurer in me. While I enjoy the peaceful sound of ocean waves at a beach, I have also enjoyed white water rafting, zip lining, wild life safaris, jet skilling, parasailing and sky diving.

Everyone needs someone to talk to, especially when things seem out of our control or in constant flux. My goal is to understand each client from a non-judgmental stance and establish a trusting relationship that provides support, empathy, integrity, and genuineness. I focus on the strengths of each individual in order to help develop each client to reach their full potential. I believe that while everyone has bad days and negativity, with help, each and every person can become the conduit to solve our own problems. I can help clients reach goals, face challenges, and assist them in developing unique skills to help in times of need in order to foster a better future. My goal is to utilize an integrative counseling approach that is tailored to the individual client and concentrates on the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of the client. I understand that while it can be difficult to reach out, each client has already begun their journey by finding the right counseling fit for them.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and History from Lake Forest College and my Master’s degree from National Louis University. I also currently work as a school-based counselor for Rosecrance.

I have been practicing counseling and therapy for five years and I love what I do. I like to spend my time cooking, going to the gym, spending time with my family, and playing video games. I am very optimistic and outgoing with a high level of energy. I aim to be a positive role model and try to be better at something than I was the day before.

Educational Background:My name is Brad; I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who obtained a B.A. in Psychology from Northern Illinois University and a M.S. from National Louis University. I entered the field of counseling as a Unit Technician for Rosecrance and in a Medication-Assisted Treatment Program as a Substance Abuse Counselor. In these positions, I was able to work with various presenting concerns and developed a person-centered approach to help my clients reach their goals.

Therapeutic Approach:I strive to give all of my clients the best possible care that I can and focus on my clients’ strengths and skills to provide an approach that is unique to each individual. My goal is to provide a safe, empathetic, and healthy environment for my clients to develop the skills that they need in order to face the various challenges and difficulties in their lives. I believe that clients benefit from having a non-judgmental, empathetic, and genuine relationship with a counselor. I take pride in being someone who is very easy to talk to, is supportive, is an open listener, and who can see things from others’ points of view. Therapy is a journey, and as in all journeys, there are highs and lows, times of progress, and times of challenge. I walk with my clients on their journeys through it all and meet them where they are at and help to overcome the challenges that are being faced. It can be scary to ask for help, and in doing so, you have taken the first steps along your journey, and I would be happy to accompany you.

About Me:Outside of work, I enjoy playing video games, reading, listening to music, spending time with family and my pets, hiking, and traveling. I love to explore new places and things, and am always looking forward to a new adventure in life. I am a very optimistic person and see the best in everyone.

As the title implies, a Patient Coordinator is the guide who literally takes your hand and leads you through the initial evaluation and serves as your advocate when the team of specialists design personalized treatment plans.  Nobody should ever have to walk alone when learning about the treatment options and deciphering between myths and facts in healthcare.  A Portrait Health Patient Coordinator will educate you and your family on the latest treatment options and will work to ensure that the focus remains on identifying the cause, and not merely treating the outward symptoms the patient is experiencing.  Each Portrait Health Patient Coordinator is experienced in pediatric, adolescent, adult and senior care, and becomes your guide and advocate at Portrait Health Centers.  Contact us to speak with a Patient Coordinator.
