Hi there! My name is Megan and I am a Licensed Associate Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor. A little bit more about my background: I graduated from Monmouth University with an MS in Mental Health Counseling and am now pursuing my LPC. I have gained experience from various settings: vocational rehabilitation, mental health, grief counseling and have worked with adults, young adults, teens, and young children in OP, IOP, and PHP levels of care.
Your well-being is the ultimate concern. Developing trust to build a therapeutic relationship that allows the client to feel supported and safe to express themselves is important. To help this bond build, I utilize employing unconditional positive regard, promoting acceptance while encouraging change and growth, and humor. My experience in helping clients with different concerns varies among those who are struggling with, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, experiencing difficulties with transitions through life stages or events, limited emotional awareness, family and relationship dynamic struggles, and career and college planning. These experiences have been shaped through various skills and techniques. Skills that are focused on include: promoting the use of coping skills to attain short and long term goals, mindfulness, grounding, and meditative practices, encouraging self-care and accountability, enforcing the client to be empowered and to learn self-reliance through various techniques. Such techniques (theories) utilized include (but are not limited to): CBT, family systems, humanistic therapy, and mindfulness, as well as maintaining a multicultural perspective.
Getting creative with therapy can seem scary and non-traditional, but I am here to help figure out what works best for the client. Sometimes, ‘going out of your comfort zone’ can help with thinking outside of the box and might even allow for a new perspective!
I like to spend my self-care time with friends and family. I enjoy hiking, being outside in nature, taking pictures of bugs, and trying out new trails! I also enjoy spending time investing in my home- such as gardening, fixing up a room, building something useful. I do value the importance of balancing my time for self-care and recreation.
