Education and Experience: While following my life-long passion working in the helping professions, I started out by earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Rutgers University.  Because early on in my career I had enjoyed working with children, I then went on to earn a master’s degree in School Psychology from Rowan University along with my New Jersey State School Psychologist Certification.  My love for learning did not stop there, and after working with children and families in both public and non-public schools for several years, I returned to graduate school to earn a second master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which prepared me to become a Licensed Associate Counselor, as well as a National Certified Counselor.

Over the years, I have had diverse work experiences in both academic and clinical settings.  I recently completed my clinical internship in a community outpatient clinic.  While there, I provided individual, couples, and family counseling to adolescents and adults, in addition to developing and facilitating counseling groups. I have also worked as an academic advisor in a university where I provided support and guidance to undergraduate students who were struggling academically. As a School Psychologist, I worked with children of all different ages, grades Pre-K through 12, to help promote academic and social-emotional well being.  In all of these work settings, I have been fortunate to work with culturally diverse individuals from different age groups across the lifespan, helping them find the right tools to tackle their problems.

Philosophy and Approach to Treatment:  I believe that the counselor-client relationship is the cornerstone to treatment success.  A key feature of my work is collaborating with clients to help them explore barriers in a respectful, non-judgmental, warm and caring environment.  I strive to build trust and create a safe space for them to embark upon this exploration.  I take the time to learn about clients from each of their unique experiences with the understanding that it is critical to recognize how their cultural identities have shaped the way they see the world.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
-Viktor E. Frankl

My philosophical approach to counseling is Existential-Humanistic in which I help clients explore and address their problems through gaining insight and awareness.  This empowers them to gain a sense of control in their lives.  In order to help clients achieve their goals, together we will utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness based, narrative, and solution focused, among others.  Because every client is unique, treatment will be tailored to their individual needs.

About Me:  Outside of the counseling room, in my free time, I like to stay active by working out, playing with my lovable dogs, and taking long walks outside.  I love spending time with my two daughters, friends and family.  I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching Netflix.
