Education and Experience:
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences and minor in Spanish from Oregon State University and Master’s degree in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University. I have nearly five years of experience working as a counselor. I have experience in providing individual, group, and Spanish counseling services. My counseling experience includes work in public agencies and various educational settings. I have worked as a vocational rehabilitation and mental health counselor. I have worked with teens and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities and individuals with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, academic problems, social impairments, career uncertainty, relationship issues, grief and loss, time management and many other concerns. My work experiences have helped me gain a greater understanding of the challenges, frustrations, and expectations of people from diverse populations.
Counseling Philosophy and Approach:
As a counselor, I believe that people are capable of change when given the right tools, self-awareness, and empowerment to take control of their lives. I strive to encourage my clients to find something about themselves they haven’t noticed before. Depending on my clients’ needs, I use many techniques, such as Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Art, Sand Tray, Motivational Interviewing, Humanistic, Emotion-Focused, and Strength-Based Theoretical Approaches. This means that I help clients improve thoughts to change behaviors or cope with life circumstances, understand feelings and needs, and recognize strengths. I also emphasize the creation of a space where everyone feels welcomed and diversity is celebrated.
About Me: In my free time, I enjoy to spend time in nature, read, dance, exercise, and travel locally and internationally. I also love to see new places and experience the beauty, food and people of different regions.
